What is specialty coffee and why do we roast at source?

We explain the difference between commercial and specialty coffee, and how our Castillo-Caturra blend (85 pts) travels from Colombia to Miami.

What is specialty coffee and why do we roast at source?

What defines a specialty coffee?

Specialty coffee is graded above 80 points in cup quality according to SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) standards. Our Castillo-Caturra blend scores **85 points**, featuring a balanced acidity, silky body, and natural sweet notes.

Why is the coffee roasted in Colombia?

Most local coffee shops in Miami purchase green beans from general importers and roast them locally, or resell commercial brands. At Luisa Coffee, green beans are purchased directly at source, roasted in Colombia, and imported directly. Roasting at source allows us to support local farmers and ensure quality control from tree to final package.

How does freshness affect your coffee cup?

Freshly roasted coffee beans retain essential oils and aromatic compounds that define their unique flavor profiles. Whether brewed at home, served from your office espresso machine, or enjoyed at a corporate event, you will taste the difference of honest, origin-roasted coffee.
